Tuesday, January 30th 2024, the UB administrative staff (from libraries and secretaries’ offices) organized a meeting within the project “Digital ecosystem for sustainable learning at the University of Bucharest – EDIS-UB”. The staff attended a training session for developing digital competencies, realized by external specialists. Approximately 100 participants learned how to use state of the art equipment for scanning PhD papers, manuscripts, essays, books etc.
Libraries and the secretaries’ offices of UB faculties, equipped with scanners through the EDIS-UB project
Through the EDIS-UB projects, the libraries of the faculties of Foreign Languages and Literatures, Letters, History, Sociology and Social Work, Psychology and Education Sciences, Administration and Business, and Law will be equipped with scanners. The equipment will contribute to creating a digital resources area for students and professors within the Virtual University Space – a broader concept which is being implemented within EDIS.
These professional scanners will be placed in libraries, we can use them for scanning educational resources (manuscripts, books and magazines etc.) but they will also be used for digitalizing PhD papers. Educational material will be saved in digital format in UB’s Cloud security system to be accessed by professors and students by means of UniBuc digital identity, said the organizers.
Associate professor Cosmin Olteanu, PhD, teaching staff at the Faculty of Administration and Business and manager of the EDIS program, attended the meeting along with professor Virgil Băran, PhD, Director of the Council for University Doctoral Studies. Both underlined the necessity of creating a digital UB library which would comprise scientific material for documentation dedicated to students and teaching staff from the programs included in EDIS, and also all PhD theses defended between1990 and 2016, which should be indexed and analyzed.
Digitalizing educational resources and placing them in an organized and easily-accessible virtual space, represents an important step in building a flexible and dynamic ecosystem for learning communities in UB, said professor Lucian Ciolan, PhD, vice-rector responsible with the general coordination of this project.
The project “Digital ecosystem for sustainable learning at the University of Bucharest – EDIS-UB”, project code 1828329254, with a total value of 43.997.550 lei, is implemented over a period of three years (September 16th 2022 – December 31st 2025) and is financed through the National Plan for Recovery and Resilience, component C:15, reform 5: “Adopting the legislative frame for digitalizing education”.
